Shocks will continue for a long time holding still holding cash at hand is a pseudo-problem
Intense game between the two forces, if see through to the lever, to the bubble process has already begun, will not be able to understand the current volatile trading; if inflation continues to fail to recognize the probability of future major events, loss of market trends will be judged.
United States began to show that theAir Max Solas wishes of the deleveraging dollar volatility, the U.S. stock market ended a unilateral increase of the stock market. This is the dollar some support, if only to see this, then we can not understand the phenomenon. According to the U.S. Bureau of Monetary data from March 31 this year, the U.S. banking system, credit derivatives issued in the name value of 14.6 trillion U.S. dollars, although the decline in the previous year, but higher than three years ago, that is, in 2006, 5.5 the level of one trillion U.S. dollars, nearly twice as much.
September 24, Singapore-based hedge fund data services company Eurekahedge report said that economic recovery is expected to benefit from the stock market innovative high, the scale of global hedge fund assets surge in August of about 21.4 billion U.S. dollars, and get the last 10 years The maximum monthly rate of return. According to Eurekahedge report showed that the overall size of the hedge fund industry has been 4 months in a row expansion trend, the cumulative increase of about 100 billion U.S. dollars.这是自2007年底以来最长的连涨周期。 The report said, the industry recorded a net inflow in August totaled 12.6 billion U.S. dollars; the same time, fund performance growth 8.8 billion in profits, which makes the total size of global hedge fund assets expanded to 1.38 trillion U.S. dollars. Can be seen that the first half of the virtual economy with monetary policy and stock market rise was a breathing space, a comeback. This proves once again triggered the global financial crisis, the virtual economy, highly leveraged operations, etc., behind the real culprit is the junk currency.
TheNike jordan melo 1.5 U.S. domestic financial derivatives the same reaction to this. September 25, the U.S. Treasury Department, Comptroller of the Currency under the agency (Office of the Comptroller of the Currency) released the report, as of the end of the second quarter, there were 1110 commercial banks reported derivatives of its ongoing or hold derivative products, compared with same period last year 47. Among them, JP Morgan Chase, Goldman Sachs Group, Bank of America, Citigroup and Wells Fargo top five bank transactions or total amount of derivatives held by all commercial banks in the proportion of 97%. The report shows that the total income of 5.2 billion dollars lower than the first quarter of 98 billion U.S. dollars, but still is a self-Comptroller of the Currency in 1996 began compiling this data since the sixth high-level, first quarter revenues were a record number of a new high. Although the United States in the second quarter of the "net current credit exposure" (Net Current Credit Exposure) fell 140 billion U.S. dollars to 555 billion U.S. dollars, or 20%, but the Comptroller of the Currency Department is responsible for credit and market risk Affairs Deputy Director凯瑟琳迪克(Kathryn Dick) claimed that "No matter what kind of standards in accordance with, the credit risk exposure is still maintained at a very high level."
The same is true take a look at China, the author's analysis, China's monetary policy can not be divorced from the world's major central banks, especially the U.S. central bank to act independently because of export-oriented model so that China does not have an independent currency system. China's stock market maverick on the surface, in the first half to lead the global market upwards, and is now leading decliners in the global market, but they are leather, as it is difficult to imagine that the world's major central banks monetary policy coherence, the Chinese stock market can be out in the first half of the stock market , and now the same. China's stock market is not independent, and only a half earlier than in other markets beat.
September 25, Chinese President Hu Jintao delivered a speech at the G20 meeting, said that "we must resolutely to stimulate economic growth, while incentives should be the possible negative impacts, particularly the potential inflation risks remain vigilant." Therefore, the current market, there are two dimensions, first, to sustain economic growth, and second, the potential inflation vigilance, in the first half of this year to stimulate growth blindly period has passed.
The Chinese government is firmly based on the expansion of the ways to reduce the risk of market bubbles. Early morning of September 28, the Shenzhen Stock Exchange press release stating that there are nine GEM upcoming IPO Festival. On theJordan 22 shoes same day came news is that Huijin state-controlled commercial bank holdings of the three come to an end. To stabilize the domestic capital markets, since September 19 last year, the Department of payment in the secondary market purchase of its own as a shareholder of the ICBC, BOC, China Construction Bank shares three lines, and will be in the next 12 months to continue the relevant market operation. Over the past year, the Department of ICBC's holdings of gold were 281 million shares, or about ICBC's total share capital of 0.08%; holdings of Bank of 8160.7 million, accounting for 0.03% of total share capital of Bank of China; holdings of 129 million shares of China Construction Bank, about accounting for the total issued shares of China Construction Bank 0.06%, mainly concentrated in the fourth quarter of last year's first quarter of this year, with the overweight was temporarily the end of the market means that the government's judgments, the role of the market has also been a significant change.
In the real economy, there is a concern of the news is that domestic steel prices dropping seven weeks, the domestic steel supply of resources will grow faster than the new growth in demand is the main reason for this round of test a low steel prices. Some people continue to blow big bubbles of coal, it is difficult to imagine that the prices of downstream industries such as steel fell, let the upstream coal prices continue to rise. Something very difficult to go against market principles long, non-ferrous metals is a precedent.
In the long run, theAir jordan XXI dollar depreciation can only solve the debt problem only, but in the short term, upstream or downstream Pofeizhouzhe. Such a shock, only to see the hands of the decision texture stock, technology will adhere to short-term operation. In the special period, the so-called holding or holding cash at hand is a pseudo-problem, the real question is, what will the U.S. dollar.

MMA Twitter Mailbag: Will CBS Market Fedor Emelianenko to NFL Fans?
MMA Twitter universe had plenty to say about Dream 11 on Tuesday morning, with a great lightweight fight betewen Shinya Aoki and Joachim Hansen, and a not-so-great series of mismatches and freak shows in other fights.

But before we get to that in our MMA Twitter mailbag, we'll Charles Barkley look at how CBS is promoting Fedor Emelianenko. Your questions and my answers for our MMA Twitter mailbag are below.

MMAConvert: See any Fedor commercials during CBS NFL games this past weekend?
No. There are still four more Sundays between now and Fedor's November 7 fight with Brett Rogers on CBS, so maybe we'll see plenty of commercials promoting Fedor during CBS NFL games, but as of right now, I think CBS is missing some opportunities to hype the fight.

Hard-core fans universally consider Fedor the best heavyweight in MMA, and many consider him the best fighter ever to fight in any weight class. But hard-core MMA fans are still a relativelynike jordan 1 small audience, and for this fight to get a good rating, CBS will need to appeal to casual MMA fans and people who have never watched MMA at all.

I think CBS needs to air plenty of commercials explaining to fans who Fedor is, and what makes him such a compelling figure. There's no better audience for those commercials thanNFL fans, but so far, those fans haven't heard a word about Fedor. I'd like to see that change soon.

MMA_Jaime: It was accidental, and I don't think he kicked him. Aoki milked that for all it was worth. VERY good win by Aoki though.
The Aoki-Hansen fight was halted during the first round when Hansen landed two upkicks, first to Aoki's groin and then to Aoki's head. I watched it several times and I don't think there's any question that Hansen landed an illegal kick Air Jordan 6to the groin, and I'm surprised that the announcers on HDNet and many fans I heard from thought Aoki was faking being hurt. I guess we'll just have to disagree on that.

But we agree that it was a very good win by Aoki: With just seconds left in the fight, he got Hansen to tap with an arm bar. He solidified his status as the best lightweight outside the UFC, and I'm looking forward to his next fight, which will most likely come against Tatsuya Kawijiri on New Year's Eve.

brent_rogers: Who is Hong Man Choi?
This came in response to my tweet comparing Hong Man Choi fighting in MMA to a dog walking on its hind legs. Choi, for those who don't know, is a 7-foot-2, 320-pound Korean kickboxerAir Jordan shoes 4 who occasionally dabbles in MMA, as he did Tuesday when he lost to Ikuhisa Minowa at Dream 11. It's fascinating to watch the enormous Choi fight, but it's far too easy for his long arms and legs to get caught in some submission or another. I'd rather see Choi focus on K-1 kickboxing, where he's a little bit more of a legitimate athlete and a little bit less of a freak show.

An autopsy that belongs to Hitler's skull

At the end of world war two decades, about Hitler's body, the last burial history biography of almost all are that: 1945 April 30, almost scored Berlin allied with Hitler,

BeiLun Tony immediately took DNA samples toair jordan XVII

It is the history channel, in the latest documentary history background of Hitler, fully disclose this latest discoveries. So far, only the physical evidence proved Hitler

In addition, people are starting to ask, if this is a collection of more than half a century of Hitler's skull, is not the mistress Eva? Because Hitler, Eva suicide, 33, and

Silicon Valley reinvents the lowly brick
By David Lawsky

NEWARK, California (Reuters) - Forget microchips.

Silicon Valley sees a profitable future in the humble brick thanks to a low-energy production process that illustrates the greening of the U.S. technology capital.

Brick maker Calstar Products is heavy on PhDs and backed by venture capitalists whose vision is to create buildings less expensively and in a way that saves energy.

"We think it Nike Air Structure Triax 91is time for a second industrial revolution," said Paul Holland, a partner at Foundation Capital, which invested $7 million in Calstar. EnerTech Capital led another round that raised $8 million for the business.

"We and dozens of others are trying to create green alternatives for all the things that happen in the building industry," Holland said.

Currently about 40 percent of U.S. energy use goes toward the heating, cooling and general operation of buildings.

Silicon Valley is finding high-tech ways to make age-old materials, pursuing carbon dioxide-eating concrete, windows that insulate better than walls, and wood substitutes.

The field is still new. Venture investments in green buildings have waxed and waned with the Nike jordanrecession, but involved 45 deals worth about $350 million the past year, according to Cleantech Group LLC.

3,000-YEAR WAIT

Bricks have been made pretty much the same way for 3,000 years, until Calstar's scientists came up with their new technique, said Chief Executive Michael Kane.

Ordinary bricks are fired for 24 hours at 2,000 degrees F (1,093 C) as part of a process that can last a week, while Calstar bricks are baked at temperatures below 212 F (100 C) and take only 10 hours from start to finish, Kane said.

TheAir jordan VI ring recipe incorporates large amounts of fly ash -- a fluffy, powdery residue of burned coal at electric plants, that can otherwise wind up as a troublesome pollutant.

"Ours is a precise product" that relies on getting the chemistry right, said Amitabha Kumar, Calstar's director of research and development.

The process of making the bricks, which look and feel like any other brick, requires 80 to 90 percent less energy and emits 85 percent less greenhouse gas than ordinary bricks, according to Calstar.

Lower energy costs mean higher profit, allowing the company to pay for its research and compete against large companies that have economies of scale. The new bricks -- which the Brick Industry Association says are not actually bricks -- will sell for the same price as traditional clay-based ones. The Brick Industry Association says there is also no proof that products using fly ash will last as well as traditional brick.
The low-carbon footprint in the production process also gives the bricks a strong environmental cachet, and Calstar is targeting theJordan melo 1.5 shoes "green materials" market with the goal of competing against traditional clay brick makers like Glen-Gery of Pennsylvania and Endicott of Nebraska.

The company's headquarters and research facility is based in a warehouse on the shores of San Francisco Bay but its first plant is under construction in Caledonia, Wisconsin, the heartland of brick-using country. It is near a Wisconsin Energy Corp plant that can supply calcium-rich fly ash.

The plant is to be running before year's end. At first, the Air Max 97company will make only "facing brick," used on the outside of buildings, a $2 billion annual U.S. market. It plans to branch out into paving stones, roofing tile and other brick markets.

The company has signed 16 distributors to sell 12 million or more bricks the first year, and plans to make 100 million bricks for sale throughout theAir jordan 10.5 Midwest and South, Kane said.

After that, fast-growing markets like China beckon.

Senate negotiators narrow health care differences
WASHINGTON — Senate health care negotiators said Monday they've narrowed their differences on a host of difficult issues with just a day or so left to seal an elusive bipartisan deal that could change the course of the contentious debate.

After months of closed-door negotiations, Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus said, "We're getting very close." But it remained unclear if theWildwood Free Trail 90 Montana Democrat could strike a bargain that would mark a turning point for President Barack Obama's top domestic priority.

The negotiators pared the cost of their 10-year coverage plan to under $880 billion, and also reported progress on several issues, including health insurance for the poor, restrictions on federal funding for abortions, a verification system to prevent illegal immigrants from getting benefits, and ways to encourage alternatives to malpractice lawsuits.

With or without Republican support, Baucus said he'll have a formal proposal on Wednesday to meet a deadline for moving ahead.

At the same time, he said the bipartisan talks could continue even as his Finance panel begins its formal bill-drafting session next week. The negotiators will meet again Tuesday.

"It's not just tomorrow or theNike jordan 3 next day," said Baucus. "We're going to keep working."

His small group of three Democrats and three Republicans has been doggedly laboring in hopes of finding a bipartisan path toward guaranteeing coverage for all and trying to control the rise in health care spending.

The three Republicans — Mike Enzi of Wyoming, Chuck Grassley of Iowa and Olympia Snowe of Maine — are under intense pressure from leaders of their own party, some of whom have publicly dismissed Baucus' framework as a Democrat's plan. Baucus may not be able to get any of them to agree. But all three have invested much time and energy in the talks, and Baucus seems to have a chance of persuading at least Snowe.

Sen. Kent Conrad, D-N.D., said the negotiators are close on a verification system to prevent illegal immigrants from getting government subsidies to buy health coverage — a big issue for Republicans.

"We're very close to conclusion on how to prevent people who are here illegally from benefiting," Conrad said.

Negotiators also said they've found ways to reduce the cost of a planned expansion of Medicaid to cover more people near theAir jordan III federal poverty line. The issue is critical to winning support from governors, since the states share in the cost of the program. A conference call with governors is expected Tuesday.

On medical malpractice, Conrad said the negotiators agreed that the federal government should provide funding for states to experiment with a range of alternatives to lawsuits.

On abortion, the negotiators are trying to come up with language that would extend current restrictions that prohibit federal funding for the procedure, except in cases of rape, incest, or to save the life of the mother.

Baucus' plan would require all Americans to get health insurance, either through an employer, a government program, or on their own. New consumer protections would prohibit onerous insurance companies practices, such as denying coverage because of a prior health problem, or charging more to those who are sick.

Even if Baucus can't get Republican support, the plan already reflects some major GOP priorities. For example, Baucus opted not to include a government insurance plan to compete with private carriers.

"I am very optimistic thatJordan 3 shoes we are going to be able to pass a bill that will get us to 60 votes," said Sen. Bill Nelson, D-Fla., a Finance member. "I didn't feel it a week-and-a-half ago, but I'm very optimistic now." Obama's speech last week "hit it head on," said Nelson, adding that the administration has also been responsive to his concerns about cutting private insurance plans operating through Medicare.

But Baucus has work to do to secure the support of other Democrats on his committee, as several made clear when they left a meeting with the chairman late Monday. Sen. Ron Wyden, D-Ore., said he was concerned that not enough financial help was being provided to help low-income people buy coverage. Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., said he thought some of the fees Baucus intends to level on sectors of the medical industry were excessive, though he declined to say which ones.

The action is being closely watched by Democrats in the House, many of whom want to see the direction the Senate Finance Committee takes before moving forward with floor votes on their bill, which three House committees approved in July. The legislation came under fierce attack during Congress' August recess at town halls and on talk radio.

House Democratic leaders have organized a series of caucus-wide meetings this week and next to focus on specific pieces of the bill. Meetings are being held this week on a possible new government-run insurance plan, needs of seniors and small businesses, and next week on containing costs. The aim is to address concerns raised by lawmakers and their constituents, and get input on final bill language.

What You Must Know About Rose Planting
What You Must Know About Rose Planting

Rose planting is a neat hobby to get into. It comes with both the actual fulfillment as well as the physical enjoyment. But mind you though, rose planting is not that easy of a task to monogram satinget into. Most flower growers and professional gardener actually consider roses as one of the hardest plants to grow. Roses can be quite a challenge to keep looking beautiful and to grow into those colorful fully bloomed flowers from merely looking like rose buds. If you really wanted to get into the habit of rose planting, all it takes is for you to plan things carefully before you actually proceed on planting your roses.

If you really wanted to pursue a garden project and fill it up with roses, the first thing you needed to keep in mind is to plan everything. Yes, this is the core of the entire rose planting endeavor. You need to plan all the details and to pick the type of roses which you will be using. If you are new to the whole gardening thing, it will be wise to consult a professional or even someone you personally know to help you out. To give you some useful ideas, you can also do some research on your own by looking things up at catalogs and browsing through gardening magazines. You can Air Jordan 12also visit any local garden or even parks to have an idea about certain landscapes and certain plants fit for home gardens if you plan to add in more than just roses.

As soon as you have accomplished making a solid plan for your garden, the next thing you have to do would be to select the types of plants for inclusion in the garden. The next important step after planning will have to be the preparation. In preparation, all the plans you have will begin to materialize in the form Karelias Cigarettesof raw materials. Make sure you include the roses you want and prepare the soil for your garden. You need to remember that garden soil does not actually occur within a snap. You do not have it overnight and you really needed to tend it before it does actually materialize. You need to make sure that you have also dug the holes where you will be placing your roses and make sure that they are separated with just the right space in between them.

Then of course after preparing your entire garden, you will now be ready to plant your roses. However, make sure that the holes you have prepared are about six inches deeper and larger as compared to the roses which you will be planting. As you begin to plant the roses, you need to carefully remove them from their wrappings to make sure they do not get damaged especially their roots. As soon as you have unwrapped the roses, the Davidoff cigarettes next thing you have to do will be to plant it already. Pack in the soil so that the roses will be held in place and make sure you also mix it in with water to keep the plants hydrated.

One H1N1 Shot or Two? No Decision Yet From U.S. Health Officials
One H1N1 Shot or Two? No Decision Yet From U.S. Health Officials

Both China and the Swiss pharmaceutical company Novartis have approved a vaccine they say prevents the new flu in a single dose.

The World Health Organization said it is suryaencouraged after reviewing the test details from the vaccine by Beijing-based drug maker Sinovac Biotech Ltd.; the WHO would not comment on Novartis' vaccine since it had not yet seen the data. It said a number of companies were working on one-dose formulations that could theoretically increase the world's swine flu vaccine supplies.

But the U.S. was taking a wait-and-see position.

“There’s not much we can say at this point,” said Patricia El-Hinnaway, a spokeswoman for the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. “We’re waiting for data to come in from the clinical trials.”

In about two weeks, the U.S. expects to announce initial test results from its vaccine, which is the same type as one of the Chinese versions, said Dr. Anthony Fauci of the U.S. National Institutes of Health.

Novartis said its results were based on Air Jordan 14a British trial of 100 people between 18 and 50 years old who received either one or two shots of its swine flu vaccine. It is also testing other swine flu vaccine formulations in more than 6,000 people worldwide.

According to Novartis, people who got two injections had a better immune response, but just one injection provided adequate protection within two weeks.

It is still unclear what this may mean for the global vaccine supply. Not every drugmaker could simply copy Novartis' vaccine recipe: Novartis' vaccine was made using cell culture, while about 90 percent of the world's flu vaccines are made using chicken eggs.

Their vaccine also includes adjuvants, chemical components used to stretch a vaccine's active ingredient and essentially make it more efficient. While adjuvants are commonly used in European flu vaccines, there are no licensed flu vaccines in the U.S. or Canada with the ingredients.

There is also limited data on Special Offer Cigaretteshow safe flu vaccines with adjuvants are in pregnant women and children, two of the groups believed to be most vulnerable in the H1N1 pandemic.

The vaccine approved by China did not use an adjuvant, like most of the vaccines being tested in the U.S.

Australia-based CSL should know within days whether one dose of its vaccine, administered to volunteers in that country in late July, was enough.

The Rise of the Female Anchor
ONE female network TV anchor is a breakthrough. Two become a catfight
That equation is almost inevitable no matter who the Air Jordan
women are who make it to the top of television news. In the case of Diane Sawyer and Katie Couric, who in January will resume their former morning-show rivalry on the evening news, it’s already printed up in the program of public perception.

So before the Betty & Veronica comparisons flare up again, it’s worth noting what doesn’t fit classic clichés of female advancement on television. The breakthrough that Ms. Sawyer accomplished isn’t that she became the first solo female anchor. Ms. Couric took that trophy — and the attendant triumph and flack — in 2006. Ms. Sawyer’s accomplishment is more subtle — she is a gorgeous, glamorous television personality who got the top job by waiting around.

Particularly when it comes to its female stars, theAir jordan television news business favors “All About Eve” coups and annexations — plucking a fresher face from thejordan
chorus line in the case of Deborah Norville or raiding enemy territory as CBS did when it wooed Ms. Couric away from NBC. Ms. Sawyer has spent more than 10 years as a co-host of ABC’s “Good Morning America,” and didn’t flinch or change networks when ABC experimented with a team of younger anchors after Peter Jennings died, and still later chose her former “G.M.A.” co-host, Charles Gibson.

Patience is not normally a virtue in the news business, but Ms. Sawyer made it her ally, letting time smooth bumps in her résumé that at one time seemed insurmountable. She moved directly from working with former President Richard Nixon on his memoirs to CBS News back when the line between journalism and government was virtually inviolate — until, that is, Tim Russert and George Stephanopoulos came along and changed the rules. Early on, her golden allure and teen beauty queen status were almost suspect — she was accused of being too fetching to be a “serious” journalist. Time has not altered her appearance — at 63 she is almost absurdly good looking — but mores have loosened. In 2003, Meredith Vieira did a stint in the Broadway show “Thoroughly Modern Millie.” When Ms. Couric sat in for Jay Leno in 2003, workers cut through her desk to expose her gams.

Women who letJordan basketball shoes
their ambition show too openly are usually punished for it. Ms. Sawyer, who is as relentless and driven as any of her peers, makes an art of coy deflection. The Nike Air Jodan
morning after ABC made the announcement, Ms. Sawyer’s response was almost geisha-like in its deference to Mr. Gibson. “It’s just such an honor to be a part of any team he’s captained,” she said softly.

Waiting, of course, has at least one drawback. Ms. Sawyer and Ms. Couric will outnumber their male counterpart 2 to 1 in an era when networks are losing their primacy and even their creative advantage over cable, and network news, in particular, is sinking in relevance and prestige. (Back in 1976, when Barbara Walters was lured by ABC, the network very likely considered the anchor job too important to entrust to a woman and paired Ms. Walters with the more authoritative-seeming Harry Reasoner.) As in other fields, women seem to break through the glass ceiling just as the air-conditioning is being turned off in the penthouse office suites. Women anchors may turn out to be what women doctors once were in the Soviet Union, a majority without status or financial advantage.

Nowadays, viewers tend to treat network evening news shows less as a source of information than as a weather vane — if all three networks go live to a presidential speech about health care, it NBA Jerseys
must be important; if none of them carry a dead statesman’s funeral, he must not have mattered so much after all. Network news may not be as important as it once was, but, oddly, the role of anchor hasn’t evolved much at all since the days of Mr. Jennings and Tom Brokaw. It is one that suits Ms. Sawyer’s velvety voice and regal demeanor. Ms. Couric, who tried to tinker with the part and inject it with some of her personality and morning-show pizazz, failed, and has since returned to the more traditional, starched style favored by the NBC anchor Brian Williams, who, perhaps not coincidentally, has a commanding lead in the ratings over ABC and CBS.

Ms. Sawyer is not likely to have difficulty adopting a more neutral, impassive persona for the new job. She is at her best, and most natural, when avoiding human emotion. Her worst on-camera moments have been those awkward, almost mawkish pantomimes of empathy or outrage — her 2000 “Good Morning America” interview with the 6-year-old Cuban refugee Elián González, during which she crayoned with the boy and stood on her head, or the way she scolded the Bush-bashing Dixie Chicks in 2003 for what some saw as a lack of patriotism. She’s better, or more believable, in hard news interviews and trips to North Korea.

It’s an odd bit of a role reversal: Ms. Couric is a morning-show natural who had to tone down her peppy cadence and casual style to suit theAir Jordan
formality of evening news programs, while Ms. Sawyer, born to be an evening anchor, spent much of her career twisting her natural elegance into the shape of slap-happy morning television. And Mr. Williams, who ascended to the position of NBC anchor on the shoulders of an old boys’ club, now has to reposition himself as a member of a persecuted minority, the white male anchorman.

After 76 years, last call draws near for bartender
PITTSBURGH (Reuters Life!) - Pittsburgh bartender Angelo Cammarata served his first beer a few minutes after Prohibition was lifted in 1933. Soon he will serve his last.

The 95-year-old, who is recognized by theAir Jordan shoes 19
Guinness Book of World Records as the world's longest-serving bartender, only had one break in his career -- to serve in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

When Prohibition ended he was working in his family's shop in Pittsburgh's North Side, selling 10-cent bottles of Fort Pitt Beer just past the stroke of midnight. He was 19, liquor laws were few, and patrons stood on the sidewalk, beers in hands.

"We had about 20 men standing outside waiting for us to open," Cammarata said. "That was the Air Jordan 20 beginning of something."

The business sold 12 cases of beer in its first two hours.

Soon Cammarata will give his last call at Cammarata's Cafe in Pittsburgh's West View section, though an exact date has not been determined.

His sons Frank and John, who own theJordan basketball shoes 20
bar, have sold the place and are waiting for state liquor control board approval of transfer of the liquor license, which was one of the first bought in Pittsburgh prior to Prohibition's repeal.

Cammarata and the cafe, which was started as Cammarata's Grocery by his immigrant father and relocated to West View borough in 1954, are local institutions. Despite his age, he still works three to four-hour shifts daily at the small neighborhood bar.

Recently he proudly pointed to a wall of thejordan shoes 20
homey, wood-paneled bar, which held various certificates honoring the veteran barkeeper, including a framed letter from former Pennsylvania Governor Tom Ridge.

"Tending bar is an education. You have to follow what's going on. You have to be crisp," he said.

A Catholic, Cammarata attends church regularly and cares for his wife of 71 years, Marietta. They have four children and 21 grandchildren.

His advice to others isNike air jordan XIX
: Know thyself.

"You have to take care of yourself, and you have to respect yourself. Your image is important ... I love myself first of all. If I'm not honest with myself, I'm not honest with others," Cammarata said, slapping a hand on the bar to make a point.

One change he has witnessed isNew Orleans Hornets jerseys
women being welcome in bars. "Now, there are more women tending bar than there are men," Cammarata said.

He still enjoys a regular Jim Beam bourbon and Coke.

"I have a drink at my own bar. It's like being atair jordan XVIII
home and having a glass of water. But it's not every day."

People of Walmart: Site Mocks Worst-Dressed Customers
Why don't people wear shirts when they shop at Wal-Mart? Or pants that fit? Has that woman been wearing a fanny pack for 15 years or did she just recently

pick up on the belt-as-purse trend? Is that guy wearing a cape?

People of Walmart, a website that launched earlier this month, catalogs the gloriously absurd attire that is sported by the big-box retailer's customer base.

There are photos of fat people in sweatpants, a child with a rattail and a guy wearing a Captain America costume. But the website's founders, three guys in

their early 20s who preferred to Michael Jackson Memorialprovide only their first names,

aren't interested in stereotypical rednecks or run-of-the-mill mullet sightings. "Mullets are too common," says Andrew, who is 23 and lives in Indiana. "We

want to document the kind of stuff that when you see it, you immediately have to call someone and be like, 'Dude, I'm at Wal-Mart and I just saw a goat.' "

(See pictures of the world beard and moustache championships.)

Andrew, his brother Adam and their friend Luke started People of Walmart after a shopping trip to a South Carolina branch earlier this month. "We turned a

corner to see a stripper - at least, I think she was a stripper - with a shirt that read 'Go F___ Yourself,' and she had a 2-year-old kid in one of those

child harnesses that looked like a dog leash," says Adam. They turned another corner and saw a guy with a ZZ Top beard.

Inspired by the experience, the three friends - who shop at Wal-Mart regularly, sometimes while wearing ugly clothes - went home and created the website.

They asked their friends toAir Jordan 16 submit photos and naively assumed that no one outside their

social circle would ever see it. "Honestly," says Andrew, "we didn't think we'd even update it very often."

But the last week in August, People of Walmart went viral, earning mention on websites like Funny or Die. Its traffic increased by 700% on Aug. 27 alone.

Photo submissions went from one or two to more than 120. The flood of visitors has even crashed the site. (See the 50 best websites of 2009.)

People of Walmart's founders expect some people to take issue with the site's tone. "I'm not gonna sit here and say the site isn't pretentious or that it

doesn't poke fun at people - because it does," admits Adam, who says he "loves" Wal-Mart. "But we have limits. We won't make fun of the people who can't help

it." They do not publish photos ofAir Max Terra Ninety disabled people or Wal-Mart

employees who are just doing their job. "I can't tell you how many people send in pictures of overweight people on motorized scooters," he says. "But we

won't post them because some of those people need scooters for a reason." He also refuses to post pictures of the Amish.

Because of those ground rules, People of Walmart mostly ridicules folks with bad hairdos, excessive tattoos or ill-fitting clothing. "Look, I'm a big guy,"

says Adam. "I'm not going to walk around in medium-size clothes. I'd look like an idiot." By the same token, he figures, you shouldn't wear a Captain America

costume, put your goat on a leash orNike Dunk let your pants fall down in public. If you do, you're begging to be

laughed at - just like this woman.

Sex offenders move to Antioch area 'because they can'
Reporting from Antioch, Calif. - Dawn Cordy always knew her neighborhood was an easy place to hide -- a semirural San Francisco suburb where housing is cheap, sheriff's cruisers rarely appear, residents don't snoop and registered sex offenders have found a refuge.

It's a small, scruffy, unincorporated island largely surrounded by the hard-knock city of Antioch, a region synonymous with the foreclosure crisis in the Bay Area but now linked to yet another outrage.

This is where Phillip Garrido, who was charged lastAir Jordan shoes 13
week with rape and kidnapping, allegedly held Jaycee Lee Dugard for 18 years and fathered her two children in a warren of tents and soundproofed outbuildings behind his gray cinder-block house on Walnut Avenue.

Garrido's and Cordy's 94509 ZIP Code is home to more than 100 registered sex offenders, according to the Megan's Law website, and officials say the region has a higher concentration of offenders than other areas.

At least four sex offenders, including Garrido, live within easy walking distance of Cordy's house; they move to theAir Jordan 13 area "because they can," said Cordy, 52. "We're mostly an older bunch, and we don't pay that much attention. This is Boonieville."

Besides, she said of her unwelcome neighbors, "Honey, I collect knives. I wouldn't mind doing them harm."

On Sunday, Dugard remained secluded with her mother, daughters and half sister in Northern California, where her stepfather said the family is working with counselors to overcome the last 18 years.

"They are doing fine -- not fine, but fine for the Jordan basketball shoes 12
situation," Carl Probyn said. "My wife says that Jaycee is an excellent mother, and they are bonding, playing little games like checkers. They are doing OK for the situation."

Law enforcement officers with saws and cadaver dogs swarmed Walnut Avenue on Sunday looking for clues that might link Garrido with a host of unsolved crimes in the region, including four slayings in Pittsburg in the late 1990s.

The main focus was the house next to Garrido's, where Damon Robinson, a 38-year-old driving instructor, now lives. Garrido cared for the property before Robinson moved in and lived for a time in a wooden shed behind it, according to sheriff's spokesman Jimmy Lee.

Three of the people whose killings remain unsolved were prostitutes. The fourth was a 15-year-old girl named Lisa Norrell, whose body was discovered a week after she left a dance alone on Nov. 6, 1998, and disappeared.

Capt. Daniel Terry of thejordan shoes 16
Contra Costa County Sheriff's Department said Friday that investigators were looking at Garrido because "several bodies were dumped at an industrial location where the suspect supposedly worked."

Minnie Norrell, 66, said a Pittsburg homicide detective contacted her Saturday about her daughter's slaying and called Garrido a person of interest.

"They said they didn't want to get my hopes up, but this guy was of interest," said Norrell, who lives in Pittsburg, where she spends her days on oxygen and in a wheelchair because of advanced emphysema. "He said they were going to be [in Garrido's neighborhood] for days. . . . I am hopeful."

Under recently passed laws, sex offenders' movements are severely circumscribed.

They generally mustjordan shoes 17
stay away from schools, parks, churches and places where children congregate, said Joan Petersilia, a law professor and co-director of the Stanford Criminal Justice Center.

Such laws, combined with the high price of housing in California, "push sex offenders to less populated and more rural areas," Petersilia said. "They want a place where they can remain anonymous and people leave them alone."

Terry, who heads the Sheriff's Department's investigative division, said Contra Costa County has about 1,700 registered sex offenders. His station is responsible for about 350, "349 more than the number of detectives I have dedicated to monitoring these people."

He called the region's concentration "significantly higher" than other areas and rued that "this is theair jordan XIII
reality. These people are walking amongst us everywhere."

Antioch, with a population just over 100,000, has struggled in recent years with crime, rampant growth and foreclosures. One San Francisco Chronicle columnist dubbed the city "the finest slum this side of Stockton."
According to RealtyTrac .com, the median home price has plummeted more than 40% in the last year and the foreclosure rate is still rising. There were 699 new foreclosures filed in July.

Mayor Jim Davis acknowledged theLos Angeles Lakers jerseys
economic pressures his city has faced. But he was quick to note that Garrido's neighborhood is not part of Antioch proper, although the city would like to annex it and "be able to get out there and police it properly."

"There's a lot of building out there violating code," he said. "If the city were out there, all the sheds and tents out there would not have been tolerated. . . . There are lower-priced rents out there. It allows those who are on probation and can't find good employment to congregate."

Betty Unpingo, a mother of 10, always knew her neighborhood was "an easy area to get lost in for a while." But until her family threw a backyard party two years ago, Unpingo didn't know exactly who was taking advantage of that anonymity.

As the party ended, Garrido stood in front of his house across theNike air jordan VIII
street and motioned for the teenage girls leaving the event to come on over, she said. Unpingo's daughter was so suspicious that she checked his name on the Megan's Law list.

On the list were Garrido and several others nearby, including two living in one home. Since then, Unpingo has instituted the "buddy sys- tem." None of her children are allowed to leave the house alone.

Sex offenders have "got to have someplace to go," acknowledged the 52-year-old retired businesswoman, "but not here."

Banks on Sick List Top 400
The banking industry continues to deteriorate, with federal regulators adding 111 lenders to their list of endangered banks in the latest quarter, even as the economy shows signs of stabilizing.

Data released Thursday painted a gloomy picture of the state of banking.

Thejordan shoes 18
government fund that protects consumer deposits fell to its lowest level since 1993. The continuing woes, which come despite trillions of dollars in government rescue financing and a rebounding stock market, raised questions about how quickly the economy can revive.

The Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. said it had 416 banks on its "problem list" at the end of June, equivalent to about 5% of the nation's banks, up from 305 at the end of March and 117 at the end of June 2008. Problem banks had a combined $299.8 billion of assets at the end of June, compared with $78.3 billion a year ago.

Landing on the FDIC's problem list means a bank is at a high risk of insolvency. State and federal regulators have already shut 81 banks this year.

"It's a continuation of theNike jordan shoes 13
deterioration across the industry," said Gerard Cassidy, a bank analyst with RBC Capital Markets. "We think there are hundreds of failures to come."

The FDIC's insurance fund, which guards $6.2 trillion in U.S. deposits, fell to $10.4 billion at the quarter's end, the lowest since mid-1993.

This is after the360 One Time Only Pack agency had provisioned $32 billion to account in anticipated bank failures during the coming 12 months. The agency is backed by the full faith and credit of the U.S. government, and depositors haven't lost a penny of insured deposits since it was created in 1933. Its fund stood at more than $50 billion last year. Bankers and analysts say the FDIC's latest figures boost the odds of the agency having to replenish its fund by imposing a new fee on banks. The fund is typically supplied that way.

The FDIC data provided at least one ray of hope. The percentage of delinquent loans -- that is, borrowers who are 30 to 89 days past due -- declined modestly in the second quarter. That suggests loan defaults might be nearing their peak.

The swelling of the problem list could be a harbinger of further industry consolidation, analysts said. Large, healthy banks, several of which have paid back their government-rescue funds, are "chomping at the bit" to buy failed lenders from the FDIC, and Thursday's report is likely to further whet their appetites, said Ed Najarian, head of bank research at International Strategy & Investment Group Inc. "They're looking at it as more opportunity to acquire banks."

The report also spotlighted a potential risk to thejordan shoes 19
broader economy. Banks are socking away cash and limiting risky business, leaving them less capital to lend and thus constricting credit just as the economy appears poised to revive.

Banks are also facing extra scrutiny from state and federal officials, another reason they are cautious. For example, the FDIC said loans to small firms declined 1.9% in the past year.

"That slows job creation and affectsAir Max 180+ corporate spending" and could prove a hindrance to an economic recovery, said Lou Crandall, chief economist at research firm Wrightson ICAP.

At a news conference Thursday, FDIC Chairman Sheila Bair acknowledged "credit problems will outlast the recession by at least a couple of quarters."

Ms. Bair said FDIC officials were in discussions with the Treasury Department about ways to direct more government capital to smaller, community banks. The Treasury Department's Troubled Asset Relief Program still has $13.6 billion that can be invested in these banks. The Obama administration, in its latest budget forecasts, has indicated it doesn't intend to ask for more funds from Congress.

The banking industry lost $3.7 billion in the second quarter, mostly because banks wrote off $48.9 billion in soured loans and put away $66.9 billion to cover potential future losses. But loans are souring faster than banks are stockpiling cash. The FDIC said the industry's ratio of reserves to bad loans was just 63.5%, the lowest level since 1991, amid the crisis in the savings-and-loan sector.

The FDIC data underscore how thejordan shoes 20
pain continues to spread beyond real-estate loans. In the second quarter, defaults on commercial and industrial loans more than doubled from a year earlier.

Credit-card losses climbed to a record 9.95%. Banks are sitting on $332 billion of loans more than 90 days past due and therefore at high risk of default. That is up by $41 billion at the end of March, and the highest level since the FDIC started collecting data 26 years ago.

Banks are holding more than $34 billion in repossessed real estate, according to a Wall Street Journal analysis of the FDIC data.

Even as banksNike jordan shoes 14
modify billions of dollars of mortgages, their pools of foreclosed properties keep growing, up 12% from the prior three months and 72% from a year before. They now stand at the highest level since 1993.

With the U.S. jobless rate nearing 10%, even borrowers once deemed low-risk are falling behind on home payments, said Sanjiv Das, head of Citigroup Inc.'s mortgage business. While mortgage defaults had been concentrated largely among subprime borrowers, "now there's a second phenomenon, with prime rising," Mr. Das said.

He said the rise in mortgage delinquencies among these less-risky borrowers is infecting a "substantially larger" pool of loans and is likely to cause more foreclosures. Mr. Das said he worries that the trend could torpedo recent gains in housing prices.

Blunting bank losses are new fees and higher interest rates jordan 12 sneaker
charged to consumers. In the second quarter, banks pocketed nearly $22 billion from service charges on deposit accounts, according to the Journal analysis, more than double the first quarter and up 5% from last year.

FDIC officials face a tough decision in the next few months about the dwindling insurance fund.

The FDIC could hit the banking industry with a special fee, the second this year, bringing in a likely $5.6 billion. Or it could tap a pre-existing $100 billion credit line with the Treasury and pay the money back later. The FDIC borrowed from the Treasury during the savings and loan crisis, the last time the fund went into the red.

Ms. Bair said Thursday thatAir 180 she had no plans "at this point" to seek the Treasury's assistance, but added: "Never say 'never.'"

There are pitfalls either way. Executives at big banks say a second fee would amount to healthy institutions being forced to subsidize their weaker rivals. But borrowing money from the Treasury could send the unwanted signal that the FDIC needs its own bailout, fanning fears about the agency's solvency and worrying consumers -- precisely the opposite of what the FDIC is designed to do.

An Era Ends With Death of Kennedy
Sen. Edward Moore "Ted" Kennedy, scion of the political dynasty that embodied liberal politics for a generation and also one of the most polarizing political figures of his time, died at age 77 after a long battle with brain cancer.

Mr. Kennedy's death at the Kennedy family compound in Hyannis Port, Mass., marked both the end of an era in American politics and the closing of a political career sculpted by profound tragedy and his own extraordinary missed opportunities.

Over 47 years in the U.S. Senate, Mr. Kennedy successfully engineered sweeping legislation that directly affected the Air Jordan 7 lives of millions of Americans. Yet political miscalculations and questionable personal conduct obstructed Mr. Kennedy's once seemingly certain ascendency to the White House.

President Barack Obama on Wednesday noted the outpouring of affection for the venerable Massachusetts Democrat. He ordered flags flown at half staff, and issued a formal proclamation calling Mr. Kennedy "one of the most accomplished Americans ever to serve our democracy." United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon called Mr. Kennedy "the voice of the voiceless."

"We've lost the irreplaceable center of our family and joyous light in our lives, but the inspiration of his faith, optimism, and perseverance will live on in our hearts forever," said a statement Wednesday by the Kennedy family.

While many Republicansjordan shoes 7
expressed their condolences, Mr. Kennedy's death underscored the deep division between his political followers and conservatives who long characterized him as a relic of self-indulgent 1960s liberalism. From health care to education, they believed, he pushed for bigger government as the solution to every problem, and in foreign affairs favored a naive approach that appeased America's enemies. Mr. Kennedy's positions in favor of gay rights, abortion rights and gun control seemed, to cultural conservatives, the outward expressions of his personal moral laxity.

Blasting what he called "slobbering media coverage" of Mr. Kennedy's death that ignored his past "bad behavior," conservative talk-radio host Rush Limbaugh on Wednesday said Mr. Kennedy was a politician who "uses the government to take money from people who work and gives it to people who don't work."

Still, many Republicans praised Mr. Kennedy's memory Wednesday, noting that the Massachusetts senator repeatedly forged unexpected alliances across party lines in the Senate.

"Sen. Kennedy was never afraid to work across theNike jordan shoes 8
aisle to get things done," said Sen. Lindsey Graham (R., S.C.). "We can all learn from the example he set and work together to build a stronger nation."

Mr. Kennedy was the only one of four brothers to die of natural causes. His older brothers President John F. Kennedy and Sen. Robert Kennedy were assassinated in the 1960s, and the late Massachusetts senator will be buried Saturday alongside them at Arlington National Cemetery near Washington. His oldest brother, Joseph Kennedy Jr., died in World War II.

Over the course of the third-longest tenure in the history of the Senate, Mr. Kennedy mounted a legislative agenda across a wide range of issues dear to liberal voters and left-leaning Democratic Party constituencies -- school and racial integration in the 1960s, poverty and gender equality in the 1970s, disability in the 1980s and education reform in the 1990s.

Yet Mr. Kennedy died with one of his lifelong goals -- universal health care -- at thejordan 9 sneaker
forefront of U.S. political debate but still unrealized. After being diagnosed with an incurable brain tumor in May 2008, Mr. Kennedy was unable to play a central role in the Democratic push to overhaul the health-care system. The senator's death, which deprives Democrats of their 60-vote majority in the Senate until at least the end of 2009, further complicates the legislative battle.

Over the course of his career, Mr. Kennedy also became one of the most divisive figures in American politics. His own presidential ambitions in the 1970s and 1980s were sabotaged by questions of personal misconduct -- especially a 1969 car crash near Chappaquiddick Island in Massachusetts, in which a young woman named Mary Jo Kopechne died. Mr. Kennedy survived the crash, but that incident and others reinforced a perception among many that the senator was irresponsible in his personal life.

If ever a man appeared an heir to destiny, it was Mr. Kennedy. He was born on Feb. 22, 1932, the ninth child and fourth son of Joseph P. Kennedy and Rose Kennedy, who were already pushing their children toward high achievement. (Mr. Kennedy's 88-year-old sister Eunice Kennedy Shriver died on Aug. 11. With Mr. Kennedy's death, the lone survivor of the nine siblings is Jean Kennedy Smith, a former ambassador to Ireland.)

Mr. Kennedy's father was a wealthy financier who dedicated himself in theDenver Nuggets jerseys
1940s and 1950s to seeing his sons rise to national political power. By the time Mr. Kennedy went to the University of Virginia law school and married Joan Bennett in 1958, his brother John was a U.S. senator from Massachusetts.

Mr. Kennedy managed John's victorious Senate re-election campaign at age 26. In 1960, he helped run his brother's presidential campaign against Vice President Richard Nixon, an event that reshaped American political culture and elevated the Kennedy mystique of youthful charisma and intellectual cool to a national platform. In 1962, Mr. Kennedy, though only 30 years old, easily won his brother's former Massachusetts Senate seat.

Then, on Nov. 22, 1963, President Kennedy was assassinated. In the Nike Men Air Force 1 Lowyears that followed, Mr. Kennedy began pressing a more ambitious legislative agenda. His first big win came in 1965, when Mr. Kennedy pushed through an overhaul of the nation's immigration laws so they would no longer favor white Europeans. Some critics still blame those changes for the nation's immigration problems, while others hail them for removing a longstanding bias. On June 4, 1968, Mr. Kennedy's other older brother, Robert, then a U.S. Senator from New York, was fatally shot by an assassin after winning the California Democratic presidential primary.

Mr. Kennedy delivered a eulogy that marked his ascent to the leadership of the Kennedy family and the liberal movement. "My brother need not be idealized, or enlarged in death beyond what he was in life, to be remembered simply as a good, decent man, who saw wrong and tried to right it, saw suffering and tried to heal it, saw war and tried to stop it," he said.

Mr. Kennedy was expected to be a formidable challenger in 1972 to a President Richard Nixon weakened by civil turmoil and growing concern about the Nike Women Air Force 1 Low Mid Highwar in Vietnam. By contrast, the Kennedy name -- and its association with the abbreviated presidency of Mr. Kennedy's brother -- had become synonymous for many Americans with good government and principled U.S. ambition. Mr. Kennedy was seen as a charismatic spokesman of the "Camelot" era.

But in the summer of 1969, the accident at the Chappaquiddick bridge in which Ms. Kopechne was killed derailed that future for Mr. Kennedy. After swimming to the surface, the senator left the accident scene and didn't report the incident to the police until the following day. Questions about his conduct on that night were never fully dispelled. In 1980, Mr. Kennedy mounted a campaign against fellow Democrat, President Jimmy Carter. Despite some late primary wins, Mr. Kennedy was routed.

With his presidential aspirations permanently ended, Mr. Kennedy -- a red-faced, white-haired figure who was frequently caricatured for his bellowing laugh and pronounced Boston accent -- focused on repairing his political and legislative stature. In July 1992, Mr. Kennedy, who had been divorced for a decade, married Victoria Reggie. He strongly supported Bill Clinton, the first successful Democratic presidential candidate in 16 years, who in turn embraced Mr. Kennedy and his family's legacy.

Mr. Kennedy's jordan shoes 8
chief strategy became to work closely with such high-profile Republicans as deeply conservative Sen. Orrin Hatch (R., Utah) on compromise bills that achieved portions of Mr. Kennedy's goals. The two senators cooperated in 1997 to enact the State Children's Health Insurance Program, which now insures 11 million children. In 2001 he endured furious criticism from other Democrats for backing President George W. Bush's No Child Left Behind Act. Two years later, his support for Mr. Bush's drive to add a prescription-drug benefit to Medicare was crucial to its passage.

Mr. Kennedy's final months were marked by the poignancy of a man facing his opportunity to accomplish a life goal, even as he fought his own devastating health battle.

In March, Mr. Kennedy came to the Senate floor for a final time, leaning on a cane and accompanied by his Nike jordan shoes 9
son, Rep. Patrick Kennedy (D., R.I.), to vote for a $5 billion bill he sponsored to expand public service. He was greeted with a spontaneous ovation, handshakes and embraces from colleagues of both parties.

Times Hit Wood Industry Hard
Hardwood floors and maple cabinets were coveted decorative flourishes during the housing boom, but the recession has chiseled so deeply into the smaller specialty wood industry that it may never hit its peak again.

Lumber mills thatNike jordan shoes 12
produce hardwoods like oak, ash, maple and walnut for items such as floors, cabinets, trim and furniture have been shuttered, victims of the credit crunch and the housing implosion. There are thousands of these mostly mom-and-pop operations, which generally have only 20 or 30 employees compared with the big North American lumber mills that produce softwoods like spruce, pine and fir to create housing frames.

As an industry, we're off 70%" on production, said Charles Netterville, owner of Fred Netterville Lumber Co., an Arkansas hardwood producer. "Prices now are around what we were getting in the 1980s. We need to see prices go back up substantially in order to survive."

The recession has seen hundreds of hardwood sawmills close, said George Barrett, editor of Hardwood Review Weekly. He estimates 2009 domestic production will be 6.7 billion board feet, down from an estimated 7.45 billion in 2008 and 9.31 billion in 2007.

Until credit availability improves, there is no chance shuttered hardwood mills will ever reopen, Mr. Barrett said. For credit to loosen, owners will have to show profit potential, which will take better markets and higher prices for their product. Many firms with multiple mills have closed a plant to limit the overall amount of product on the market and cut costs, Mr. Barrett said.

"The Air Jordan 15 cabinet industry is running 25% to 35% of capacity, if they haven't closed altogether," Mr. Barrett said.

U.S. cabinet sales were 32% lower in the first quarter of 2009 than in the same period a year ago, according to the Kitchen Cabinet Manufacturers Association.

When the recession eases, it may be too late. There are inklings that hardwood demand is slowly rising, but much of the production may have shifted to lower-cost parts of the world, Mr. Barrett said. The small U.S. hardwood mills might have a hard time competing with subsidized producers with cheap labor in countries like China and Mexico, he added.

The Air Trainer Huarachefurniture industry has shrunk significantly in the last 10 years as Asian and Mexican producers have taken over, Mr. Barrett said, because of labor costs.

More than 300 furniture plants have closed, with nearly 90,000 employees terminated, he said.

Mexico has an edge in the U.S. market because of the lack of ocean freight issues that accompany a move to production in other continents, Mr. Barrett said.

There is talk of some of this returning to theHouston Rockets jerseys
U.S. once the recession is over, but with changes to the cost structure of the plants, he said.

Some in the hardwood industry have said they expect the second half of 2009 to show market growth. Housing and hardwood lumber demand is showing some signs of bottoming, and sales are beginning to pick up, said Andrew Pointer of A&M Wood Specialty, who added that sales had declined 15% from before the recession.

Mr. Barrett said some wholesalers have increased purchases as a hedge against potential price increases or spot shortages.

ThereNike jordan shoes 13
is some reason for caution, however, Mr. Barrett said. A large percent of the houses being started now are smaller and use relatively little hardwood.

Home remodeling uses more hardwood per project than a full house, but there are debates about the pace of that work. Some like Mark Brown, senior product manager for U.S. Lumber, say remodeling helps some specialty woods, like the more decorative pieces. Others say remodeling is down with the recession.

If demand for hardwoods rises, the market could find fewer supplies because of the lowered production, Mr. Barrett said. It is difficult to assess whether price gains will be sharp as a result or whether there will be slower gains as imported woods fill some of the supply holes

Prosecuting the CIA
‘I t would be unfair to prosecute dedicated men and women working to protect America for conduct that was sanctioned in advance by the Justice Department.” –Attorney General Eric Holder, April 2009

"Justice Department Names Prosecutor to Reopen CIA Abuse Cases" –Wall Street Journal, Monday

Mr. Holder had it right theAtlanta Hawks jerseys
first time. His about-face Monday, compounded by his release of a 2004 internal CIA report on that agency's handling of terrorists, opens a political war that President Obama, the CIA and above all the country will live to regret.

This is a trap the Administration set for itself. Mr. Obama and his team have attempted to appease their political left by publicly denouncing the Bush Administration's national security policies, even as they claimed to want to forget the past. Their disparagement has only fed the liberal demand for Bush prosecutions and increased the pressure on Mr. Holder to appoint a prosecutor.

Justice threw kerosene on those politics Monday with its release of findings compiled by the CIA's inspector general in 2004 about the agency's detention and interrogation of terrorists. The ACLU had won a court order for their release. We were still reading its hundreds of pages at deadline, but most of the supposedly damning details had already been leaked. The new bits include the fact that interrogators threatened terrorists with a gun shot in a nearby room, with a power drill and cigarette smoke, and against Khalid Sheikh Mohammed's family. We suspect millions of Americans will be shocked to learn that these unshocking details are all that the uproar over "torture" is about.

Thejordan shoes 2
CIA itself commissioned the IG review early in the first Bush term, the agency sent an unredacted copy to the Senate and House Intelligence Committees in 2004, and the entire membership of both those committees was given access to the report in 2006. The CIA also sent the report to the Department of Justice in 2004, referring allegations of abuse for potential prosecution. Current CIA Director Leon Panetta, in a note Monday to agency employees, pointed out that "career" prosecutors (not Bush appointees) evaluated each of those claims "carefully and thoroughly, sometimes taking years to decide if prosecution was warranted or not."

The DOJ brought only one case, convicting a CIA contractor who beat a detainee who subsequently died. In no other case did Justice attorneys decide that a prosecution was warranted. This is no surprise, given that most of the techniques outlined in the CIA report had been approved by superiors and declared to be legal in official legal opinions.

Yet none of this counted for much Monday, as Mr. Holder used theNike jordan shoes 2
report's release as an occasion to appoint federal prosecutor John Durham as a special counsel to re-open the cases for potential criminal prosecutions. His decision was supported by a recommendation from Justice's Office of Professional Responsibility, which has been complaining about CIA practices for five years and now finally has a willing ear in the new Attorney General.

By naming Mr. Durham, who is already investigating destroyed CIA videotapes, Mr. Holder suggested this was merely an expansion of an existing probe and would be limited in scope. He described Mr. Durham's task as a mere "preliminary review" of overseas interrogations, which may not result in any charges.

We hope he's right, but jordan 2 sneaker
special prosecutions, once unleashed, have often been impossible to control. Mr. Durham may well begin by examining isolated cases where CIA interrogators are accused of breaking the law, such as the CIA employee who supposedly fired a gun in a room close to a detainee, in an attempt to make the detainee believe a colleague had been executed. This threat of potential imminent death may have violated some statute, though it was used against men who were thought to have information that could save innocent American lives. But Mr. Durham will be under enormous pressure to investigate everyone up and down the CIA chain of command, starting with those who merely followed the legal opinions and going all the way to senior CIA officials such as former Director George Tenet and other Bush Administration officials.

Mr. Holder's decision has already re-energized demands to prosecute the Bush lawyers who wrote the legal opinions that authorized enhanced interrogations. As New York liberal Representative Jerry Nadler declared recently, going after the CIA interrogators who "waterboarded" a detainee with "eight ounces" of water rather than the Bush lawyers who decreed they could only use three ounces, would be "terrible."

All of this Boston Celtics jerseys
will further demoralize a CIA that has already been stigmatized by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and other Democrats as an agency populated by rogues who lied to Congress. This is the same agency that Mr. Obama and all Americans are counting on to wage a war against al Qaeda and deter future terrorist attacks. The message that Mr. Holder's criminal probe will send to thousands of men and women is that they had better not do anything remotely controversial on behalf of American safety, even with a lawyer's permission. This war against our own war fighters comes just as President Obama's counterterror escalation in Afghanistan is getting more difficult.

By threatening to prosecute CIA officials, the Obama Administration is taking ownership of future troubles in a way that will only do itself harm. Like the Church and Pike probes of the 1970s, Americans will once again see that the Democratic Party cares as much or more about settling scores against fellow Americans as it does about fighting the war on terror. Mr. Holder yesterday acknowledged that his decision to reopen the old CIA wounds would be "controversial." He will soon learn how much.

Gwathmey’s Death Further Diminishes ‘New York Five’
More than 40 years ago, a group of young Manhattan architects with a shared interest in the aesthetics of old-fashioned Modernism began getting together to talk about their work, their lives and the state of the field. And in the decades that followed, even as their styles grew apart — and as they became celebrities in and beyond the world of architecture — they continued talking
But now the group, long known as the New York Five, is shrinking: After losing its first member, John Hejduk, in 2000, a second, Charles Gwathmey, died last week.

Following thejordan shoes 18
news of Mr. Gwathmey’s death, at 71, friends and colleagues from within and outside the group spoke about his weekend houses on the East End of Long Island — especially one he designed for his parents, completed in 1966 — and his additions to public buildings, like the Guggenheim Museum by Frank Lloyd Wright and the Art & Architecture Building at Yale, by Paul Rudolph.

But they also remembered his beginnings as one of the New York Five, or the Whites, as the group was also known because of its proclivity for white buildings inspired by the purist forms of Le Corbusier. Along with Mr. Gwathmey and Mr. Hejduk, the group included Michael Graves, Peter Eisenman and Richard Meier.

The five men, who knew one another through the architecture schools they attended and taught in, were living in New York in the mid-1960s, just starting out as practicing architects and teachers.

“We were all involved in teaching and in practice and we respected each other’s work,” Mr. Meier recalled. “We decided to have a sort of Saturday morning discussion of what we were doing at the time. Each person brought one work.”

Mr. Graves said theNike jordan shoes 17
meetings were also a way to continue the educations they had begun in architecture school. “We were all recent graduates,” he said, “used to juries and conversations with colleagues. And suddenly you’re out on the street and you’re not talking to anybody.”

“What united us was a need to convene with each other, to be self-critical, to talk about each other’s work,” he added.

Members of the Five also participated in a larger architectural group organized by Philip Johnson around 1970 that included the architect and historian Kenneth Frampton, then teaching at Princeton; Colin Rowe, another influential architectural historian and theoretician, from Cornell; and Arthur Drexler, then the curator and director of the department of architecture and design at the Museum of Modern Art.

Somewhere along thejordan 11 sneaker
way, the five architects started taping the sessions and decided to turn the transcripts into “a little pamphlet,” Mr. Meier said, that would feature two houses by each of them. They couldn’t come up with a title (though the book came to be known as “Five Architects”), so they just put their last names on the white square cover in alphabetical order.

“We didn’t think anybody would read it,” Mr. Graves said.

The book, published by George Wittenborn in 1973, became a sensation. “It was a cause célèbre,” said the architect Robert A. M. Stern, dean of Yale’s architecture school. It was not so much that the five architects shared an aesthetic, Mr. Stern said; they had “a shared camaraderie and belief that the Modern movement of the 1920s and 1930s was worth revisiting.”

All of the five were surprised by the book’s impact, particularly “among students of architecture — in America and Europe as well,” Mr. Meier said. (Young architects in Italy knew them as “I Five di New York.”)

Mr. Graves said: “I think people were probably hungry for something other than commercial Modernism. We cared about urbanism and we cared what was said about architecture.”

Mr. Eisenman thought thatLos Angeles Clippers jerseys
architects with different sensibilities should review the book, and suggested the idea to Mr. Stern, who assembled a group that included Jaquelin T. Robertson and Charles Moore to do just that. Their responses to the book, a series of essays called “Five on Five,” were published in the magazine Architectural Forum; this second group came to be known as the Grays.

After the five Whites, along with some of the Grays, rose to various versions of architectural stardom in the 1980s, some critics argued that they were too concerned with the formal aspects of architecture.

“What was all the fuss about?” Paul Goldberger wrote of the White-Gray debate in The New York Times in 1993, on the occasion of an exhibition and lecture series called “Five Architects: Twenty Years Later” at the University of Maryland. “It was apparent to only a few people then that all these architects, Whites and Grays alike, had more in common than they had dividing them: at the end of the day they were all profoundly elitist, concerned mainly with the aesthetics of the single-family house, and determined to make architecture in a fairly traditional way.”

The Air Max 360 II 2architects had reunions of their own. “We continued our friendship, and that’s all it was, was a friendship,” said Mr. Graves, who recalled that Mr. Gwathmey called him “Gravesy.”

Mr. Gwathmey had an office three floors below Mr. Meier’s on 10th Avenue at 37th Street, in Manhattan. The two collaborated — along with Mr. Eisenman and Steven Holl — on a proposal in the 2002 competition to redesign the World Trade Center site. Their scheme featured five glass towers joined by interconnecting horizontal floors.

“This is the one people are going to be fighting about,” Herbert Muschamp wrote in The New York Times in 2002. “Superficially, the design ignores the lessons that postmodernism was supposed to have taught us about context, scale, accommodation and reassurance. It may strike some as a throwback to the megastructural superblocks of the 1960s. So what? The project makes its own kind of statement. Continuity with the epic ethos of the Modern era is part of what it has to say.”

When the architects were collaborating on the jordan shoes 19
proposal, Mr. Gwathmey was always the first to arrive. “He was really into it,” Mr. Meier recalled. “It was the only thing we did as a team, and everyone really took part in an equal way — it wasn’t: ‘This was my idea.’ ”

Mr. Meier, who said he had known Mr. Gwathmey for 50 years, has particularly fond memories from the time when Mr. Gwathmey was first courting his second wife, Bette-Ann Damson, and they all picked corn for dinner in a field adjacent to a barn Mr. Meier was renting on the East End of Long Island.

Charlie was a sweetheart,” Mr. Meier said.

Indeed, Mr. Gwathmey’s fellows say the architect’s occasionally gruff manner — he was known for firing off angry missives to critics and colleagues — was only on the surface. “He had a real rough exterior and told it like it was but was a real marshmallow inside,” Mr. Eisenman said.

Of the Nike Air Zoom Talache 1letters and e-mail messages, Mr. Eisenman said that Mr. Gwathmey’s friends often counseled him, “Write ’em, but don’t send ’em.” But sometimes Mr. Gwathmey couldn’t help himself. And when one of his buildings was panned by critics, he took it hard — particularly the recent harsh reviews of his Yale addition and of his glass residential tower at Astor Place in Manhattan. “They say architects have thick skins,” Mr. Graves said. “We don’t. It affects not just your well-being but it affects your practice.”

The last time Mr. Graves saw Mr. Gwathmey was at a meeting of the Philip Johnson group just a few months ago, at the Four Seasons restaurant. (Their usual location, the Century club, was under renov
